Finger Puppets
What better way to help with our own fanfictions than making finger puppets to help act out our scenes? Learn to make your own felt finger puppets, so that you can recreate moments from your favourite games, series or books.
STEP ONE
Gather your materials, you will need colour fabric, we chose felt as we have so much of it. Scissors and fabric scissors, pencils, chalk, beads, sewing needles, coloured threads, pins, cardboard, free pdf. Once you have everything ready you just need to choose who you want to make into a finger puppet. We love Cookie run so chose Pitaya as our subject.
Then make your finger puppet stencil, use your own fingers as the models. Trace around one, make sure to leave at least a 1.5cm space around, and make the "head" larger that the "body". For Pitaya we ended up making an additional large circle shape for their face. Cut out 2, place one to the side.
STEP TWO
Start building your characters features, you will need to work from an image or drawing of your character and then using the pins, pin down the layers, and different coloured pieces of fabric for their eyes/clothes.
STEP THREE
When you're happy with what you have pinned down begin the process of adding shading, or drawing with the different coloured threads. Take your time adding the smaller details like colouring in the eyes, adding the "twinkle" or if your character has freckles or is blushing. Use the different coloured threads to build your characters unique traits.
STEP FOUR
Take your time sewing the finger pieces together, and the main puppet, we added wadding to the top then took our time measuring out how much space we needed for our finger to easily slip in and out. Then sewing each part down. Mindful that we don't sew through the front of the design.
Once finished have fun creating scenes for your puppet to act out.
