Poisonous Frog Cosplay

Let's be frogs! Using cardboard and fabric lets make poisonous frog cosplays. Creating costumes to wear and play-in can be a fun way to practice different creative and fine motor skills whilst also engaging in role playing and using your imagination.

STEP ONE

Find a poisonous frog you would like to create on the internet/library and then sketch out the frog. Try and show the different details on the frogs skin. What patterns are there? Try and show the different colours or shape of the eyes etc. Then gather the materials you need to create the head first.

STEP TWO

Begin to build the head by cutting strips of cardboard and first using one around your neck to then settle on your shoulders, then use another to create an arch over your head from the back to the front. Keep adding strips and slowly build the shape of the head. Make sure you leave a space for the frogs mouth to be open, this will be where you see out of it. Attach the eyes on either side on top, ball up newspaper the cover with smaller strips of cardboard to act like lids.

STEP THREE

Once the head is built cover the different cardboard edges with the frogs "base" colour of skin, we chose black. Using tissue paper and a watery PVA mixture we covered the frog head and covered the whole head. Leave to dry. Then add the coloured patterns if your frog has any, we used orange, red and yellow pieces to recreate the patterns. Leave to dry.

STEP FOUR

Now work on making the froggy gloves (optional), trace around your hands on paper to create the patterns, leave lots of space at lease 1.5 inches around the wrist and hand. Then lay this pattern on top of the fabric you have chosen to use. Pin then using tailor chalk trace around it, then remove pattern and cut out shape. We used different colour felt to match the pattern on the frogs head, sew these in place. We added circular finger tips and then stuffed wadding inside once sewed together.
